Man arrested in Orange Grove is charged with possession of a loaded firearm

ORANGE GROVE – Norwood Police Station officers arrest and charge a man for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on 1 March.

A man was arrested in Orange Grove on a charge of possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on 1 March.

The spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, Elliot Tshivhase said, “On-duty police officers alleged that while[driving] on patrol on the corner of 9th Avenue and 15th Street, they spotted a man hiding in the dark.”

Tshivhase added that this made the police officers suspicious, so they made a U-turn and stopped the man as he was walking away. The officers searched him and allegedly discovered a firearm with the serial number scratched off and loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

The man was arrested and will face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
