JOBURG - St John's College Basketball Tournament a huge success

The talented players from 28 schools across southern Africa gathered to go head-to-head at the St John’s College Basketball Tournament with the U19 finals taking place on 26 February.

The tournament was filled with great excitement as pupils, teachers and parents from various schools watched in amazement at the unbelievable basketball talent showcased throughout.

Communications officer of the school, Jacqui Deeks said, “Basketball has certainly grown in popularity among schools across southern Africa over the past 10 years, and the tournament promises to be a great weekend of basketball offering the boys lots of games, the chance to play teams they don’t usually get to play touring sides.”

The tournament saw an impressive final between Michael Mount Waldorf School and Escolia Lazio Basket from Mozambique. Following a hard game, Michael Mount Waldorf came out victorious winning 61–45 with their player Marcus Geldenhuys winning the award as Most Valuable Player (MVP) overall. Third place went to St Alban’s College.
