Powerful woman guns for top accolade
JOBURG – Shannon Roscher and 29 other women have been nominated in various categories by the prestigious Woman of Stature: Woman of the Year organisers.
North Riding resident Shannon Roscher has been nominated in the youth ambassador category at the prestigious Woman of Stature: Woman of the Year awards to be held on 11 March at Emperors Palace in Joburg.
Thirty of the country’s most prominent women will compete in the following categories, one of which has five subcategories:
- Community
- Business (finance, media, healthcare, education, entrepreneur)
- Youth ambassador
- Director’s special award.
Woman of Stature, which was launched in 2013, inspires and empowers women and raises awareness and funds for charities. The proceeds go to causes such as the Cancer Association of South Africa, HospiceWits and the Five Pillar Empowerment programme.
Charlotte du Plessis, director of the awards and last year’s Margaret Hirsch woman in business achievers winner said, “The 30 nominees are each prominent in their respective communities and have reached considerable heights in their careers. They each reflect our values and focus as women of stature. That is, empowering other women, whether through active mentorship, or just setting the example for leading a purposeful life.”
Roscher added, “I am beyond thrilled to be nominated for this prestigious award.
“It gives me great pleasure to know that [organisations such as] DeskBags [are] making a noticeable difference in the lives of the 3.1 million desk-less students in South Africa.”
She added in reference to the organisation that provides portable school desks, “I am a firm believer that education is a vaccine for poverty. Thank you to corporate South Africa for helping to make a sustainable change in our future leaders’ lives.”
