A rude awakening

JOHANNESBURG – Armed robbery suspect receives a rude awakening.

Johannesburg Central Police arrested a 24-year-old suspect at about 6am on 10 February in connection with a robbery at the Yashika building, situated on the corner of Kruis and Salisbury streets.

“Five suspects robbed a 27-year-old man at the Yashika building on 5 February at 10pm [allegedly] at knife point,” said Captain Xoli Mbele, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station.

“The victim was in the toilet when five men grabbed him from behind and threatened him with a knife. They searched him [and] took R700 cash before they fled the scene.”

After establishing that one of the suspects resides in the same building as the victim, police moved in on him while he was asleep and subsequently apprehended him.

The suspect will appear in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of armed robbery on 13 February. The other four suspects are still at large and an investigation is underway.
