LISTEN: Norwood delivery men say they fear robberies

NORWOOD – Delivery men in Norwood are fearful following a series of robberies targeting them while working.

Delivery men working for various restaurants along Grant Avenue in Norwood have expressed concern following a series of robberies targeting them in January.

According to a delivery man who spoke to the North Eastern Tribune, but wished to remain anonymous in fear of his safety, the current trend has happened primarily just off Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove.

He said the delivery men would receive a late call for an order at around 9pm. When they arrived at the address provided by the caller, a group of robbers would allegedly sneak up behind them and steal the contents in the scooters.

The delivery man said that, in his case, when he arrived for a delivery on 2nd Street in Orange Grove, robbers allegedly cornered him and took his wallet, cellphone and money before making their escape.

He added that at least five other delivery men have been robbed in Orange Grove, allegedly with one arrest made.

Chairperson of the Norwood Community Policing Forum, Wandile Yani, said an investigation by the local police is underway.
