Recently, the Rand Girls High School social responsibility team launched an anti-bullying campaign for the school’s Grade 8 class, specifically addressing girl-on-girl bullying and cyberbullying.

The girls painted their pinky nails as part of their vow to stand against bullying and signed pledges to be responsible and respectful citizens of Rand Girls High School.

The social responsibility team, which began three years ago, aims to assist its internal and neighbouring communities. Every year, the team puts together various charity drives and is responsible for the school magazine, The Rose Express, as well as a Glass Slipper project for the matric dance.

“We are a busy and active team and all our work is done on a project management basis,” said Ilonka Poole.

“This is a skill which is necessary for life after school. We learn how to work in a team, to communicate, what to take into account when planning a project, follow-up and time management, presentation skills, organisation skills and development of interpersonal skills.”
