This morning just before 7am Emer-G-Med dispatched multiple resources to reports of a serious taxi crash on the corner of Barry Hertzog and Empire, in Milpark.

“On arrival paramedics found that a taxi had collided with four other vehicles, after an alleged brake failure, the taxi then overturned,” said Max Cohen, spokesperson for Emer-G-Med.

A total of 13 people were injured in the collision, all sustaining injuries ranging from minor to moderate. “The patients were treated at the scene before being transported to various nearby facilities for further care,” Cohen said.

Metro Police were at the scene to determine the exact events leading up to the collision.

Tom Otamanski, a driver of one of the vehicles that was involved in the accident told City Buzz that he slowed down for robots when he heard a loud bang.  A taxi driver allegedly failed to stop when lights turned red. Otamanski said, “I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a taxi heading for me. It must have been a couple of seconds before the taxi hit me and rolled. The driver was injured, he was taken on a stretcher by paramedics. Three or four other passengers were injured. I dint see any serious injuries.”
