Preventative measures for vehicle owners

PARKVIEW – Know how to protect your vehicle.

 

Spokesperson for Parkview Police Station, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko shared some important tips for vehicle owners to prevent them from falling victim to theft of motor vehicles and having their belongings stolen from their cars:

  • Ensure your vehicle is locked and your alarm system is activated, even if you will only be away from the vehicle for a few minutes.
  • Ensure windows and doors are properly closed and locked.
  • Never leave valuables such as jewellery, laptops, cellphones and handbags unattended and it is important to keep valuable items out of sight.
  • Never leave your car unlocked, even for a few minutes.
  • Ensure your vehicle has an audible alarm which activates as soon as the door or window is opened or broken.
  • The quicker a stolen vehicle is reported the better chance of it being recovered.
  • Always make every effort to park behind a locked gate.
  • Avoid parking the vehicle on the street or in the driveway.
