Man found murdered in Patterson Park

NORWOOD — Homeless man found dead in park.

On 21 January at 7.21am, Constable Kgatlhane said she received a phone call from radio control about the death of a man on the corner of Iris Road and Grant Avenue in Norwood.

Kgatlhane arrived at Patterson Park and was approached by resident, Michael Lebese, who showed Kgatlhane the body.

She inspected the scene and found a male lying on the ground, face-up. The corpse had no shoes on and was dressed in a black jacket and blue jeans. There was a large amount of blood around his nose area and it looked as though he had been dragged from where he had been sleeping. More blood was found in his tent.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and declared the victim, dead. Thanks to some thorough police work, the deceased was identified as Jongikhaya Mziwanja, from the Eastern Cape.
