LifeLine Johannesburg will run counselling courses in February and is urging community members to volunteer.
LifeLine started in 1963 in Australia and was brought to Cape Town in 1968, developing into a network of telephone counselling centres and other services. The course is the core requirement for preparing volunteers to become LifeLine counsellors and community workers. It contains essential personal growth and interpersonal skills for anyone who wishes to explore all aspects of their life, promote their own growth and self-awareness as well as their ability to hear and relate more meaningful to others.

To become a counselling volunteer, the first step is to undertake a four-month training course. You must be over the age of 23. You need to attend all sessions and have at least a Grade 12 education. The cost is R6 500 and you must take your filled in application form to an interview which will take place on either 25 January or 1 February at LifeLine situated at 2 The Avenue, corner Henrietta Steet in Norwood. You can choose morning or evening sessions.
LifeLine provides community members with tools to better handle stress and improve their emotional well-being through face-to-face sessions and group training interventions.
There are 17 LifeLine centres nationally, with centres in Norwood, Alexandra and Soweto.
