Northview High School gets a visit from Sanca and police

The Sandringham police, along with the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), hosted a special talk for 200 Grade 8s from Northview High School.

Sanca specialises in the support and sustaining of outcome-based addiction services around the country by raising awareness in the public and private sector of the dangers of substance dependence while encouraging research and community empowerment.

The talk was led by Emmanuel Manganye from Sanca who warned of the dangers of substance abuse, while members from local law enforcement touched on other important issues. Captain William Chauke, from the police’s Family, Child and Sexual offences unit, educated the youngsters about various forms of abuse including gender-based violence and domestic abuse.

Manganye explained the effects of various drugs, including Nyaope and Tik that have torn apart communities, through helpful pamphlets and asked them to report any suspicious behaviour to their parents, teachers and the police.
