NPO in dire need of help
MALVERN – Duduzwane Home, a non-profit organisation based in Malvern needs your help.
Duduzwane Home, a non-profit organisation based in Malvern, is pleading for donations from local community members and businesses.
The home takes care of community members who are infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. “We also provide basic needs like feeding the patients, bathing them and monitoring medication,” said the organisation’s Eve Thavhana.
The home caters for up to 20 adults and children at different stages of the disease.
“We also care for people who are infected with TB. We strive to allow the terminally ill to die with dignity.”
The home offers support to the community with:
- HIV counselling
- HIV support group
- Death and dying counselling
- Multivitamin and multi supplement to the chronically ill
- Allied social development services
- Victim empowerment
- A soup kitchen
- A hospice for terminally-ill persons.
The founder of the home was the late Duduzile Zwane and Thulani Mngomezulu. It started as a project handing out food parcels and support groups at Cleveland Police Station.
“The Akona Foundation donated the house and it was the most wonderful day for the community of Malvern and those living with HIV/Aids and the destitute,” said Thavhana.
The home started operations in 2004 with seven patients and more people came on board and provided assistance to the home. “We don’t receive any funding from the government. We are all volunteering as nurses or cleaners here. We do not get paid.”
The home is faced with many challenges including:
- No permanent staff and reliance on volunteers
- No transport to transport patients in case of emergency.
