Mad is back

ROSEBANK – Making a Difference Domestic Watch meetings return.

Domestic Watch meetings are in full swing for this year.

Penny Steyn, head of Making A Difference (Mad) Domestic Watch meetings will hold meetings in different suburbs.

“My intent is to start 2017 by being sharp and equipped with the numbers for crime prevention, possible suspects being reported and catching those that are destroying employers’ and employees’ lives,” said Steyn. “When the Domestic Watch attendees know better, they will have the confidence to do the right thing, those that don’t know better end up helping criminals do crime.”

This month’s topic will be themed, ‘taking care – home and telephone’ and covers all the essentials for personal and home safety, and how to get help using a telephone.

“I will be teaching them [how to] speed dial their patrol vehicles, which numbers to use and which not to use. How phones can be your worst enemy or save your life, stolen cellphone reporting and how to answer the landline and not give away employers’ details.

“Too many crimes are happening through information getting out from insiders in the homes. This is nothing new, however, sometimes information is passed on unwittingly. Sometimes domestics are being bribed or threatened to give inside info to criminals. The police tell me the crime statistics have proved that there are way too many who work in a home or office who give out inside information.”
