DSJ class of 2016 excels

PARKTOWN – DSJ matric class achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.

Marketing and public relations manager of the school, Savo Ceprnich said the 2016 class was particularly special as it had the first English medium high school class that completed Grade 12. He highlighted that the addition of the English group increased the school’s National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates from 30 to 46.

Ceprnich proudly stated that all their candidates passed. “Our candidates passed with an entrance to further study at a tertiary institution. From the combined NSC-Abitur [German university preparatory school leaving qualification] stream, 26 candidates obtained the minimum requirements to study for a bachelor’s degree and one to study for a diploma at a higher education institution in South Africa.”

All 27 candidates have obtained the minimum requirements to study at a German tertiary institution or at a tertiary institution in those countries that recognise the German International Abitur.

From the NSC stream, 43 candidates obtained the minimum requirements to study for a bachelor’s degree and three candidates obtained the minimum requirements to study for a diploma or higher certificate at a tertiary institution in South Africa. This means that 94.5 per cent have a bachelor’s degree pass and 5.5 per cent have a diploma pass. No candidates are excluded from tertiary education.

Compared to the overall Independent Examination Board (IEB) results, the DSJ (100 per cent) fared very well, performing much better than the average of the IEB (98.67 per cent). Matrics who passed with admission to a bachelor’s degree at the school was 94.5 per cent compared to the IEB at 87.61 per cent.
