Domestic kidnapped returning from Zim

HOUGHTON – Passengers kidnapped while travelling back from Zimbabwe.

On 8 December last year, a Mrs Khang sent a message via Whatsapp to her domestic worker, Simfrosa to find out when she would be returning to Johannesburg.

Khang sent the message at 2pm from Wallace Street in Houghton. Simfrosa was travelling from Zimbabwe back to Johannesburg via taxi. Simfrosa responded, using a different cellphone number, saying that she was three to five hours away. Then, about an hour later, Khang received a phone call and was informed that Simfrosa and the other passengers in the taxi were somewhere in Johannesburg, locked in a room.

The men who had allegedly kidnapped Simfrosa and the other passengers then demanded R2 000 for her release. Khang was told to deposit the cash at either a Spar or Checkers using the cellphone number as a reference.

Investigating officer Captain Baloyi said, “The money was paid and Simfrosa has now been released. We are in the process of tracing the cellphone numbers used.”

Norwood Police Station spokesperson Elliot Tshivhase said, “The suspects are unknown and the case is still under investigation.”
