JUST IN: Suspect drowns in Zoo Lake

PARKVIEW – An escapee throws himself into the lake and drowns.

 

A suspect, who escaped from Parkview Police Station custody on 9 January, drowned in Zoo Lake following his refusal to hand himself over to police.

According to Parkview police spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the 23-year-old man was arrested for a housebreaking in the Greenside area.

“The suspect managed to escape and police gave chase,” said Sibeko.

“When he reached the lake he was cornered and he refused to hand himself over.”

Sibeko said the man threw himself into the lake and drowned. Paramedics called to the scene pronounced him dead.
