Rand Girls celebrates its top achievers

PARKTOWN – Two of the school's matrics achieved seven distinctions

 

Rand Girls’ School, situated in Parktown, would like to congratulate Sumaiya Shaikh and Munashe Parati, who achieved seven distinctions. The school has also lauded its matrics on their hard work, which paid off.

Shaikh, a dedicated and motivated cricket fan who hopes to study BCom, achieved seven distinctions and passed her final exams with an 87 per cent average.

At the school’s prizegiving, she received the following awards:

  • Rothberg memorial medal for English achievement
  • CJ Joubert trophy for bilingualism.
  • Aansporingsbeker vir Afrikaans
  • Augusta Maree trophy for physical science excellence
  • Vorster trophy for accounting
  • Risi Reynders trophy for English
  • Ilonka Poole trophy for life orientation
  • Cyntha Dednam trophy for business studies
  • MM Theron trophy for best academic achievement in Grade 12.
    Munashe Parati achieved an astonishing seven distinctions.

Parati, whose father was ill for most of her matric year, achieved seven distinctions. The best part of her matric year was the prizegiving. The worst part was the death of her classmate. Her study tip is to make sure you understand the content of each subject.

She was awarded:

  • The Linda Reid trophy for maths
  • The Van der Watt trophy for senior pupil who shows neatness, positive attitude, participation and helpfulness
  • Several academic excellence certificates for distinctions in her subjects.

Head girl Mpumelelo Ngele’s best part of her matric year was the dance and spending time with friends. She has been provisionally accepted at Wits university to study medicine, having achieved six distinctions.

These are:

  • English 89 per cent
  • Afrikaans 87 per cent
  • Maths 81 per cent
  • Life orientation 93 per cent
  • History 92 per cent
  • Life sciences 85 per cent.

Deputy head girl Latoya Ndlovu also excelled.

She achieved four distinctions:

  • English 81 per cent
  • Life orientation 80 per cent
  • History 90 per cent
  • Life sciences 83 per cent.
