2016 Matric pass rate at 76.2%

JOBURG - 2016 national senior certificate results show an improvement from last year.

The 2016 national senior certificate results have shown an improvement compared to the 2015 results.

The grade 12 class of 2016 has achieved a 76.2 percent pass rate, an increase from the 74 percent of 2015. This was announced by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga on 4 January.

Announcing the results, the minister highlighted that the class of 2016 was the biggest that the department has ever had.

Compared to other provinces, Gauteng didn’t do very well. Although the province had an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the 2015 results, it came third nationally with an 87 percent pass rate.  Leading the pack is the Free State Province which achieved over 90 percent pass rate and then followed by the Western Cape which achieved 87.7 percent.
