Milpark Education has ensured that Dignity Dreams, a Pretoria-based charity organisation, continues its work of providing sanitary towels to a number of underprivileged girls and women in South Africa by donating R140 000 towards their cause.
The recent prize giving was attended by Sandra Millar from Dignity Dreams, representatives from Milpark Education, including Dr Cobus Oosthuizen, dean of the business school; Dr Japie Heydenrych, executive manager, tuition and research; and Gloria Castrillon, executive manager, quality assurance and regulatory affairs; as well as other staff members from the business school and a group of students.
Milpark Education is a private provider of higher management education in South Africa.
Once every semester, students doing their postgraduate diploma in business administration and master of business administration are required to engage with a charity organisation of their choice. The selected charity must be registered with the South African Revenue Service.
During a presentation, they have to recommend why the selected charity should be supported as part of a corporate social responsibility strategy. They are required to investigate the background of the organisation and must provide an in-depth motivation of their support initiative. The winning group’s charity receives a prize from Milpark Education.
The winning team, #iCare, was announced at the event. The team consists of Jolene Gordon, Tracey Leigh, Nenad Misic, Garane Nonisa and Neil Alberts. They selected Dignity Dreams as their charity. Milpark Education was impressed by the team’s passion for the work done by this charity and admired their determination to assist Milpark Education in making a difference.
An amount of R140 000 was donated on behalf of the winning team to Dignity Dreams. In addition, Murray & Roberts donated R10 000, BMW Financial Services donated R15 000, and Sanedi donated R30 000. The private higher education institution expressed its gratitude to the companies that also contributed towards this good cause.
Dignity Dreams’ focus is on helping South Africa’s young girls and women meet their personal hygiene requirements. Dignity Dreams has given 19 previously unemployed women the opportunity to run their own businesses by training them to sew its products.
The overarching goal of Dignity Dreams is to ensure that every underprivileged girl and woman in South Africa receives a Dignity Dreams pack so that they are able to attend school, university or work.
