Travel back to Bethlehem

RANDPARK RIDGE – Honeyridge Baptist Church invites you to walk through Bethlehem in a Living Nativity play.

The Honeyridge Baptist Church’s walk-through Living Nativity will once again bring the birth of Jesus to life.
Youth pastor, Dave Birkholtz, explained that last year’s event was such a success, as over 2 000 people attended the play where members of the church put on a production depicting scenes of the Bible in a walk-through tour.
As last year was the first walk-through, the church did not know what to expect and have since made alterations to create a new and improved version of the play.

This year will boast a ‘waiting lounge’ where individuals can sit and relax while they wait to be taken on one of the guided tours that leaves every few minutes. To pass the time, there will be a tuck shop, coffee bar and jumping castle for the children.
The real fun starts when the tour begins as an extra two scenes have been added to reiterate the story of Jesus and the times of Bethlehem, starting from the Old Testament.

The tour, which takes around 25 minutes, ends with the Honeyridge Baptist Church Choir singing Christmas carols, where attendees are invited to join in the singing.
“It is almost like carols by candlelight combined with the Christmas story,” said Louise de la Rey, secretary to the pastors of the church.

The idea to create a walk-through play was to reconnect the community with Christmas. “We wanted to reach out to the community and present Christmas in an interesting way – something different to engage the community,” said Birkholtz.

Individuals can still expect the festivities of last year with new carols and even more live animals to feed and pet. “Even if you came last year, you should come again as there are different aspects and we have really upped our game,” Birkholtz added.

The Living Nativity, which will take place from 9 to 11 December from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the church offers secure parking. This event is free of charge and no booking is required.

“A large part of the production will be covered so even if it rains, we will go forward as planned. We ask people to bring an umbrella and still come through,” added Living Nativity committee member, Bronwyn Marshall.
