Rosebank Police Station mourns colonel’s death

ROSEBANK – Colonel Thandi Mkhize has passed away after she was shot 14 times in 2011.

 

Rosebank Police Station is mourning the passing of Lieutenant-Colonel Thandi Mkhize who was shot 14 times by her colleague in 2011.

Mkhize passed away in the early hours of 20 November this year.

She never fully recovered after being shot, according to Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, spokesperson of the station.

Chairperson of the Rosebank Policing Forum, Costa Qually, since sent out an email to community members saying that it was with great sadness that Mkhize had passed away and may her soul rest in peace.

Mkhize was shot by the station’s clerk, David Kekana, who also shot another policewoman, Captain Neelavathi Naidu who died. Kekana had walked into Mkhize’s office and shot her twice and then shot Naidu in her office. He then allegedly went back into Mkhize’s office and shot her 12 more times.

Kekana then committed suicide at the station.

Mkhize’s memorial will take place in Hillbrow on 23 November.
