16 police reservists needed at Rosebank Police Station

ROSEBANK – Rosebank police need 16 people to become reservists.

Rosebank Police Station is looking for 16 police reservists to join the team next year.

“We would like to urge community members who live around Rosebank and surrounding areas to apply should they meet the requirements,” said Sergeant Bongo Mdletshe, spokesperson for Rosebank Police Station.

He added that should a person become a reservist, they would be required to perform general functional policing duties in different sectors. “Prevent, combat and investigate crime and uphold and enforce the law. Becoming a reservist is voluntary and is without any remuneration and the position as a reservist does not guarantee an appointment as permanent members of the South African Police Service,” said Mdletshe.

Applicants must display competency in post-specific functions.

The following is required:

  • Must be a South African citizen by birth and must be between 20 and 50 years of age.
  • Must complete a health questionnaire determined by the national commissioner at their own cost, which is confirmed by a registered medical practitioner.
  • Must be medically, mentally and physically fit to perform duties.
  • Must be of good and sound character.
  • Applicants must provide his or her fingerprints and a DNA sample.
  • Must complete an assessment questionnaire.
  • Applicants will be screened, undergo training and be prepared to take an oath of office.

He continued, “Reservists’ services may be terminated at the age of 60. Applicants who are employed will receive preference. Proof of residential address will be required and a clear criminal record is required. People with tattoo marks which are visible if a person is in uniform will not be allowed to apply.”

According to Mdletshe, all applicants must be in possession of at least a senior certificate (Grade 12) or must have successfully completed a SAQA accredited NQF Level 4 qualification. If applying, applicants must be able to speak, read and write at least two official languages, of which one must be English.

The following persons will not be considered:

  • Applicants who previously served in a government department and who were dismissed as a result of misconduct, or discharged as medically unfit from a previous employer.
  • Members of the regular force of the National Defence Force referred to in Section 52 of the Defence Act, 2002 (Act No 42 of 2002).
  • Hold a key position as determined by the department of labour.
  • Hold any post or office in a political party, organisation movement or body.
  • Is actively involved in politics or who is an outspoken supporter of a political party and who may violate the non-partisan nature of the police.
  • Is a full-time or part-time journalist.
  • Is not in full-time employment.
  • Is a scholar.
  • Is a bouncer.
  • Is a member of a municipal police service (including a local law enforcement officer).
  • Is in any manner connected to a brothel, escort agency or any such undertaking.
  • Is in any manner connected to a business or industry which had contracted with or submitted a tender to the State to render a service of supply a product to the police.
  • Is in any manner whatsoever involved in the private security industry or taxi industry/liquor trade or licences or private investigation service or operation of a scrapyard or micro-lending services or tow-in or breakdown service or gambling industry or preparation or completion of applicants for firearm licences or insurance investigations and investigations on behalf of agencies handling claims against the Road Accident Fund/trading in livestock excluding such trading as part of bona fide farming activities and a funeral undertaker.

Applications close on 25 November. Application forms can be filled in at the police station and must be completed in the person’s own handwriting.
