What did Mamelodi Sundowns victory mean to you?

JOBURG - We took to the streets and found out from ordinary South Africans what the win meant to them individually as well as for the country.

Mamelodi Sundowns, a soccer club based in Pretoria and the current Premier Soccer League titleholders were crowned African champions in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League on 23 October.CAF Champions League is an annual African club football competition where top club sides from Africa’s football leagues participate.

Sundowns beat Egyptian giants, Zamalek 3–1 on aggregate in the final at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria‚ Egypt.

 

VAUGHN VAN DER MERWE: Sundowns did very well. It was fantastic to be represented at that level and winning just put the icing on the cake. Well done to them.
CHARMAIN NAIDOO: It is extraordinary and it was about time that the cup came back to our soil. This exciting win will unite the country which is under tremendous stress due do the current unresolved issues.
ROSELYN SIBANDA: Sundowns has raised our flag. I am so proud of them and proudly South African too.

 

BONGANI HLATSWAYO: I am super proud of the boys and the country was behind them all the way. This achievement will certainly bring us close together as sports lovers and ordinary citizens.
PRISCA MATHE: It was amazing to see all their hard work pay off. The have made us proud as a country and proven nothing is impossible.
MAKGOTSO MOLOBELA: The win was amazing and I know this means greater things for South African soccer.
ETIENNE BROODRYK: I am happy that they have won, they deserved to win, however, I don’t believe it is going to do anything for soccer in South Africa because they are still playing for a salary and not for passion.
TSHIRELETSO TSOTETSI: Their win puts me over the moon even though I am an Orlando Pirates supporter. I am glad they put South Africa on the map again.
LEE DLAMINI: It is great for the country that they have won, especially at this time in our country. I hope it will uplift our national team and South African soccer in general.
SHANDU LUKOTO: I am very happy and very proud as a South African. They put us on top and on the map which is exactly where we belong.
