Traffic ‘nightmare’ at Kosher World investigated

GLENHAZEL – Resident calls for traffic issues at Kosher World Shopping Centre to be resolved.

Ward 72 councillor, Steven Kruger, has assured patrons that steps will be taken to try and resolve the traffic and parking ‘nightmare’ at the Kosher World Shopping Centre.

This follows a recent complaint from a frustrated resident, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of intimidation, who alleged that the centre, located in Glenhazel, was responsible for the massive traffic and parking issues experienced by motorists using the road next to the centre.

“There’s a huge amount of traffic and parking issues caused by Kosher World and furthermore, they have no care for the cars passing by,” the irate resident said.

She further accused the shopping centre of not demarcating parking for its delivery trucks and instead allowing the trucks to block the road when unloading, an act she claimed was illegal.

She also questioned the construction of another building at the centre and asked why the community was not informed of this or given a chance to raise objections.

“I chose to speak out on this because I want to raise awareness on this issue and to also allow the community to weigh in,” she said.

Responding to this was Kruger, who confirmed the parking and traffic issues at the centre and citing it as due to the close proximity of shops, schools and restaurants.

To remedy this, Kruger explained that Metro police had been requested to do regular patrols and issue tickets for offences.

“I have also requested development planning to meet me there, so that they can start a process to see if the various shops have planned for and provided sufficient parking,” he said.

Kruger also spoke on the issue of the legality of the extra building, confirming that the centre did indeed have the correct zoning and approved building plans.

“On the issue of informing the community, it is not a requirement that they meet with residents and get approval from them,” he concluded. At the time of going to print, Kosher World was unable to respond due to the Jewish Holidays, but confirmed that a response on the matter would be given by 26 October. The matter continues.
