Near-fatal shooting in Hillbrow

HILLBROW – Police investigate an attempted murder in Hillbrow.

Hillbrow police officers recently arrested a man for his alleged involvement in an attempted murder which saw a person shot multiple times in Hillbrow.

The shooting incident took place at a block of flats along Catherine Road late at night on 1 October.

Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, spokesperson for Hillbrow Police Station, explained that, at this stage, it was unclear how the incident unfolded or what led to the shooting. “It was also unclear what the relationship between the two persons was, but we can confirm that, at some point… the victim [was shot] three times, resulting in wounds to the… upper body.

“The victim was then rushed to hospital and is currently in a stable condition. The man was then nabbed by the police for his alleged involvement in the incident.”

The accused was then detained at Hillbrow Police Station where he was charged with attempted murder. Zondo confirmed that the man has since appeared in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court to face his charge.

The case was postponed for further investigation. “At this stage, the police are still investigating the matter and the motive behind the shooting,” said Zondo.
