Bogus cop scam warning

PARKVIEW – Residents are urged to contact the police immediately if they have been contacted by bogus cops.

In September, Parkview police opened three theft of motor vehicle cases reported by residents.

“It is alleged that bogus cops have the details of the complainants as well as their vehicle registration numbers and they claim that they have recovered the cars,” explained Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, communications officer for Parkview Police Station.

“The complainants are informed by these criminals to deposit cash at a Shoprite or at a bank so that the car can be towed to a close-by area.”

Parkview police are warning residents not to deposit any money as it is a scam. Police will never ask for money from the public for towing a vehicle which had been stolen.

Anyone who believes they have been scammed should contact Parkview police immediately.

Details: Parkview Police Station 011 067 6000; Lieutenant Colonel Muhlarhi 082 319 9955.
