Bramley police welcome a new communications officer

BRAMLEY – Newly appointed Bramley spokesperson reflects on his journey as an officer at the station.

Bramley Police Station recently welcomed an old face to a new post, with the recent appointment of Captain Molefe Mogodi as the new communications officer.

Mogodi was appointed to the post on 1 September and took over from Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela.

While Mogodi is new to the post, the experienced officer is not new to the station, having worked there since 1992, fresh out of college, as a constable. He explained that during that time, he worked as a crime prevention officer before being promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1996.

“I was then promoted to the rank of warrant officer, still working in crime prevention, and then moved to social crime prevention in 2008.”

Mogodi explained his decision to make the move to social crimes and said it stemmed from his interaction with both victims and perpetrators of such crimes, where he realised that there were underlying social issues at play in committing such offences. The exposure to social crimes also meant that he had the opportunity to work with the likes of People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa) and social workers, allowing him to make a much-needed difference.

Despite holding a different post, Mogodi reaffirmed his dedication to fighting crime and working with the community to achieve this. “Despite now also being a communications officer, I still get to do crime prevention and work closely with the community to eradicate crime.”

He concluded by expressing the hope that through his work, the community would take more interest in what the police do and would get more involved in fighting crime. “I hope we’ll be able to bring them closer to their police station and get them to trust us, especially when it comes to reporting crime.”
