Bramley police urge patience when reporting crime

BRAMLEY – Bramley police remind residents of the process involved in reporting a case.

Bramley police are once again urging frustrated residents to be patient with the progress of their cases.

This advice comes from the new Bramley Police Station spokesperson, Captain Molefe Mogodi who said residents often complained about the slow progress of their cases without understanding the process.

“There’s a feeling that our community does not get joy with the police, and this is perhaps because we don’t tell or teach them about what we do and that is why there’s a negative perception about reporting a case to us,” he said.

“There’s a process involved in reporting cases and residents need to understand this process and not always rush to involve the media or station commander before following the correct channels,” explained Mogodi.

This starts with reporting the case to the police, either by calling the police and giving all the necessary details or going to the station in person to open one. Once the case has been opened and registered, the complainant will receive a case number, which will assist in tracking the progress of the case.

“Once the case has been captured on the system, residents will receive an SMS notifying them of this and they will also be given the investigating officer’s information,” he said.

In instances where the system is down and the police station is unable to register the case immediately, complainants will be contacted and informed of the delay.

Once the resident has received a confirmation, the investigating officer will then get in touch with the complainant to update them on the progress of the case once it goes to court and whether there are additional developments to the case.

Mogodi concluded by stressing that there were channels in place to keep track of cases, through the investigating officer or by contacting the station personally. He urged residents to be aware of this. “The main aim on our side is to ensure that the community feels free to contact us and feels safe in their homes,” he said.
