HILLBROW – Suspects nabbed for unlicensed guns.

The Hillbrow police nabbed two men found with unlicensed firearms and ammunition within the precinct on 8 September.

The incident unfolded in Hillbrow on 11 September at about 3am during a patrol by police along Pretoria and Claim streets.

According to Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, spokesperson for the Hillbrow Police Station, as the officers were carrying out their duties, they heard gunshots. “The officers allegedly spotted the two suspects, where the gunshots were fired, and approached them to investigate,” he said.

Police searched the two and discovered two 9mm pistols with 13 live rounds and promptly arrested the suspects for the offence.

Zondo confirmed that the two were then detained at Hillbrow Police Station, where they were each charged with the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The suspects will make an appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ court on 13 September to answer to their respective charges,” Zondo confirmed.
