World famous artist inspires King David pupils

NORWOOD – Young King David pupils motivated by well-known Israeli artist.

King David Junior Primary Linksfield recently hosted their Grade 1 to 3 art exhibition at Norwood Mall.

This year, the junior masterpieces were inspired by world-famous artists and, in particular, Hanoch Piven.

Piven is an internationally renowned Israeli illustrator, known for his colourful and witty artistic creations and best known for using everyday household objects to create collages and works of art. King David Schools brought Piven to South Africa for the exhibition and to hold a series of art workshops and master classes with the pupils and teachers.

Attendees at the launch of the exhibition on 5 September were privileged to meet and interact with the very approachable artist. As a build-up to the exhibition, pupils sold raffle tickets to win an original Piven Nelson Mandela artwork, and the lucky winner, Karen Joss was thrilled with winning her one-of-a-kind, valuable piece.

Merle Maselle, an art teacher at King David and initiator of the exhibition, encouraged the children to create their masterpieces during art class at school. She said, “I am extremely proud of all our King David pupils who, with creativity, imagination and hard work, have used everyday household objects to create their own original artworks.”
