Brother complicit in his sister’s rape and house robbery

BLAIRGOWRIE /CRAIGHALL – Two of the accused are still on trial for the incident.

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his involvement in a rape and house robbery.

The incident was reported on 23 December 2014 when three males entered a home on Hillcrest Street. One man waited outside while the other three overpowered the female victim. They stole her bank card and the man waiting outside proceeded to the Standard Bank on Jan Smuts Avenue.

According to Linden Police Station spokesperson Captain Walter Spencer, “They then returned to the home where they ransacked the house and one man raped the victim and they left with the stolen items.”

Constable Tonti Molefe then obtained a warrant for the bank footage and was able to identify the suspect waiting outside and drawing the money.

It turned out that he was none other than the victim’s brother. He was found guilty by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Spencer added that one of the suspects died before accounting for his role and the final two are still on trial for that incident. Molefe was congratulated for his hard work as he did all the investigating from the beginning.

The brother has not been named to protect his sister.
