131 arrests in 8 days

JOBURG – The Johannesburg East Cluster has made 131 arrests in a week.

 

The Johannesburg East Cluster arrested 131 suspects from 5 to 12 September.

The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, armed robbery, business robbery and rape. The cluster is made up of seven police stations – Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood, Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow and Yeoville.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • Three for armed robbery
  • 27 for common assault
  •  22 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • Eight for theft
  • 11 for shoplifting
  • Seven for drinking in public
  • Seven for possession of drugs
  • Six for malicious damage to property
  • Three for business robberies
  • One for theft of a motor vehicle
  • Seven for fraud
  • Two for pointing a firearm
  • Four for possession of an unlicensed firearm
  • Four for possession of suspected stolen goods
  • Two for business break-ins and theft
  • One for reckless driving
  • Four for dealing in liquor without a licence
  • One for possession of dangerous weapons
  • One for rape
  • One for theft of copper
  • Two for murder
  • One for attempted murder
  • One for violation of a protection order
  • Five for common robbery.

“The suspects have appeared in different courts. Some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remain in prison,” said Captain Richard Munyayi of Jeppe Police Station.
