Police arrest two for armed robbery

JOBURG – Jeppe police have arrested two armed suspects and recovered stolen goods.

Jeppe police arrested two suspects for an armed robbery recently.

“A 25-year-old man alleged that he was walking along Marshall Street in the city when he was approached by two men. One of the suspects took out a knife and demanded money from the man,” explained Captain Richard Munyayi of Jeppe Police Station.

According to Munyayi, one suspect searched the man and took R330 in cash and a cellphone from his pockets.

The suspects ran inside a nearby block of flats. Two women who had witnessed the robbery informed the victim that they knew who the suspects were and that they live in the same building they ran into.

The police were called and searched the building and managed to arrest the two armed suspects. The 22- and 25-year-old men were taken to Jeppe Police Station and charged with armed robbery. Munyayi said the pair will appear in court soon while investigations continue. The stolen items were recovered.

Jeppe Police Station forms part of the Johannesburg East Cluster which includes, Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville police stations.
