Burglars want to plead for trespassing

ALEXANDRA - Accused in housebreaking want to plead for trespassing.

Two Hillbrow men who intend pleading guilty to a trespassing charge will hear their fate at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 19 September.

The men were arrested on 9 August this year and are charged with housebreaking with intent to commit an unknown offence and for threatening to commit an assault at a Bramley Park home.

The two were arrested at the home by private security guards. This after a family member, who heard noises and the door being forced open, called the security company who advised her to lock herself in a toilet while they rushed to the property.

Meanwhile, the homeowner arrived and was allegedly confronted at the door by the two accused who threatened him with screwdrivers. The man fired warning shots, forcing the men to run back into the house where he ordered them to lie on the floor.

When they saw that they were trapped, they allegedly tackled the man and tried to take the gun, but failed. They then ran out of the house but turned back when they saw the guards at the gate. The man fired at them, forcing them to run towards the gate where the guards arrested them.

They want to plead guilty for trespassing as they were not found in possession of anything taken from the house, even though they had broken in and threatened the victims.
