Archbishop Desmond Tutu to undergo surgery

JOBURG – The 84-year-old veteran anti-apartheid activist, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu will undergo a minor operation today.

 

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu will undergo a small surgical procedure today (7 September) to address the root cause of the infections. Tutu was admitted to a Cape Town hospital on 24 August for treatment of a recurring infection. According to a statement released by his family, the Archbishop has continued to respond well to treatment.

Expressing the family’s gratitude to all who were holding the Archbishop in their prayers, his wife, Leah Tutu said further updates on the Archbishop’s condition would be released through the media as appropriate.

The 7 September also marks the 30th anniversary of Tutu being appointed. He is the first black man to lead the Anglican Church in South Africa. Many people on social media have gone to celebrate this special event in South African history:
