Encouraging children to read

ORANGE GROVE – Orange Grove library volunteers continue the fight against low literacy.

Volunteers working at Orange Grove Primary School library have once again upped the fight against low literacy levels at the school through ongoing efforts.

The library, started by volunteers a few years ago, is set to host a guest author on 24 August as part of an ongoing effort to encourage schoolchildren to read more. And it seems to have paid off as the library has seen an increase in visits from children who also take out books.

The library was established two years ago by a group of volunteers in a run-down building on the school’s premises which was in need of repair and renovation. It was then transformed, through generous donations from friends and concerned citizens, into a place where the children can be exposed to a world of literature and knowledge.
