Police nab Savoy resident for brutal assault with stone

SAVOY ESTATE – Police nab suspect after brutally attacking his girlfriend on Women's Day with a stone.

Bramley police officers recently arrested a man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a stone.

The shocking event allegedly took place in Savoy Estate on Women’s Day following an argument between the couple.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, explained that it all started when the victim went to her boyfriend’s place to collect rent money from a tenant.

“When she got there and requested the money, the boyfriend allegedly handed over less than the agreed amount,” Maphakela said.

When she questioned him on this, an argument ensued between the two and the victim then grabbed the remote key for the gate and ran off. The accused then allegedly chased her with a stone in his hand and hit her repeatedly with it, resulting in her sustaining injuries to the face, head and right hand.

“The accused then ran away from the scene, but upon the matter being reported to the police, was later apprehended and detained at Bramley Police Station,” Maphakela confirmed.

The accused was charged with assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and has since appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 11 August, where the case was postponed to 19 August.

The case continues.
