A new market hotspot

JOBURG – Joziburg Lane joins the market scene.

 

Joziburg Lane offers a ton for foodies and eager city explorers.

Joziburg Lane is situated at 1 Eloff Street, on the south side of Johannesburg, and has become another one of the popular food markets to hit the city, adding a number of new great food stalls to the list of exciting places to eat in the city.

However, food is not all it has to offer.

Geoff Jardine and his team at Molten Black are the masterminds behind this exciting project and have described the space as, “A landscaped, urban alleyway lined by shops which culminate into the Joziburg Foodhall.”

Also to be discovered at this wonderous space is the Joziburg Deli, which caters to all your bread and cheese desires, and the Joziburg Bar, which serves up some super delicious drinks for visitors to enjoy as their make their way through the lane.

And, there’s still more!

The new Joburg hotspot is not just a place to find food and drinks, but also the perfect place to shop around for interesting arts and crafts made by local artists and craftsmen.

There’s even more to find at this safe, urban space because they are now offering guided tours of Johannesburg City so that everyone can get the chance to experience the city authentically. Hosted by JoburgPlaces, the tour starts at Joziburg Lane where explorers are treated to a presentation about the city and its regeneration, followed by an extensive walk for more than two hours, and later a lunch at the end of the walk which brings the tour back to the exciting eatery and arts destination.

According to South African History Online, this space once belonged to a shoe merchant who opened his store in the late 1800s and became a prominent retailer in the mining district that developed at the turn of the 20th century.

It was declared a National Monument in the late 80s.
