Even foreign nationals aren’t exempt from the long arm of the law.
This after a Tanzanian national drug mule, Karim Mussa Kondo (27), was sentenced to six years direct imprisonment by the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court for drug dealing and bribery.
Kondo was arrested early this year after landing at OR Tambo International Airport from Dar-es-Salaam. A routine search of his luggage by customs and the Hawks team, based in Parktown, revealed that he had concealed approximately 40kg of the drug ephedrine with an estimated street value of over R2.6 million.

Upon discovery, Kondo tried to bribe authorities with R5 000, resulting in an added charge.
The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant-General Mthandazo Ntlemeza welcomed the conviction as a warning to would-be traffickers. “Our eyes and ears are everywhere, just when you think you are home and dry, you will be next,” he said.
