Fashion to Flux: Dion Chang keeps ahead of the trends

JOBURG - Dion Chang moves from fashion to business.

It’s been 10 years since he gracefully exited the fashion industry, but Dion Chang is still super trendy.

Chang is no stranger to fashion, working for many years behind the scenes of the fashion pages you love at True Love, Rooi Rose and Elle.

He has 20 years of experience in the magazine industry and now, as a journalist and media spokesman, provides insight into the ever-changing relationship between brands, consumers and the communication channels that bind them.

“I think this was the natural progression because even in my media career, I was the start-up team for Elle magazine and fashion week, so I was always at the beginning of ‘stuff’ and I love what I do now,” said Chang.

Having removed himself from the fashion industry – however, maintaining his impeccable style – Chang has placed himself at the forefront of business trends.

Now running a company called Flux Trends, Chang’s career is centred on understanding the consumer mindset, identifying unexpected business opportunities within shifting trends and ensuring that global trends have relevance when translated for South African businesses.

The company holds a number of activations and open sessions for businesses to attend – the most recent open session called Through the looking glass: The art of communicating and doing business in a hyper-visual era, where he detailed some of the latest visual trends making their way into the business space allowing companies to provide their customers with a fully immersive experience.

Chang aims to take businesses off the ‘burning platforms’ and assist them to integrate trends into their business strategy and help them move forward.

“You are going to be taken out if you don’t look ahead,” Chang concludes.
