Jewish Genealogical Society to host meeting in Orchards

ORCHARDS – Residents invited to meet military vet speaking at Jewish Genealogical Society meeting.

 

The Jewish Genealogical Society of South Africa is inviting residents to an upcoming special meeting taking place on 21 August.

The meeting is held at the Hebrew Order of David International Centre in Orchards and will see decorated military veteran, Lieutenant-Colonel William Bergman present and give an address on the Jewish Contribution to the South African Military History.

Bergman was in the permanent force for 25 years as the staff officer electrical services for the South African National Defence Force and was awarded the Military Merit Medal decoration for his contributions.

Upon retiring from the army, he went on to start a consulting electrical engineering company and is also the honorary secretary of the National Council of the South African Jewish Ex-Service League and the chairman of the Johannesburg and Reef branches of the league.

The meeting will start at 7pm and the entrance fee is R25.
