Bramley police nab man for brutal assault with beer bottle

WYNBERG – Assault incident leaves victim badly injured.

Bramley police officers recently nabbed a man accused of assaulting a man with a beer bottle in Wynberg.

The shocking incident allegedly took place on 22 July in the early hours of the morning as the victim was making his way home.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, explained that while he was walking home, the accused approached him and started walking with him. “The accused then tried to make small talk with the victim, but when his advances were ignored, he got angry and allegedly hit the victim with a beer bottle over the head.”

The accused then allegedly ran away from the scene, leaving the victim with serious head injuries and an open wound. Maphakela confirmed that the police managed to find him a while later and arrested him.

“He was detained at Bramley Police Station and charged with assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm,” Maphakela said.

The accused has since appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, where he was granted bail and the matter was postponed to this later this week.

The case continues.
