The wait continues for political parties and Johannesburg residents. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is currently delivering results for the municipal elections but Johannesburg will be excluded. Chief Electoral Commissioner of the IEC, Mosotho Moepya has confirmed that the results of Johannesburg have been excluded from the final announcement as counting has not been finalised yet.
The Johannesburg count at 6.30pm, had only 97 percent of the vote finalised, with the ANC leading with 42.02 percent while the DA was following closely with 39 percent and the EFF standing at 10.99 percent of votes.
The cause of the delay is not yet clear but Moepya said Joburg results will be released soon.
