Two men could be linked to multiple armed robberies

PARKVIEW – Police have arrested two suspects for armed robbery.

Parkview police have arrested two armed suspects who are believed to be involved in a number of recent armed robberies.

This is according to Parkview police’s acting station commander, Colonel Sandile Mkhize. He explained that the arrest was made after he and Sergeant Peter Mpofo were patrolling the Parkview precinct and noticed the two men leaning into an Audi A4 on the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Westminster Road.

Mkhize added that when they noticed the two suspects, the latter had also noticed them and dropped the bags they were about to take from the car and attempted to run away. The two police officers then gave chase on foot and were able to apprehend them not too far from the scene.

“We found one of the suspects had a Samsung phone in his possession, and upon going through the phone and calling one of the numbers, we got through to a person who knew the owner of the phone. The person then notified me that the owner of the phone had been robbed earlier in the day at gunpoint along Jan Smuts Avenue while she was driving,” explained Mkhize.

While the docket was being handled the next day at the station, Mkhize said they had another three cases opened, all with matching descriptions of the two suspects. “I believe that the two suspects will be linked to those cases which were opened,” he concluded.
