Dignity packs in honour of Madiba

JOHANNESBURG – Dignity packs for the homeless on Mandela Day.

Software solutions company, Interactive Intelligence South Africa, honoured Nelson Mandela by distributing sandwiches and dignity packs to the homeless in Johannesburg on Mandela Day.

Staff members of the company took to the streets to hand out more than 150 dignity packs to the destitute. Each pack contained a sleeping bag that is made from recycled material, a pillow, a blanket, an enamel plate and cup, a face cloth, soap, a torch, sandwiches and fresh fruit.

“We believe that this unique gesture allowed our staff to get involved in giving back whilst also providing much-needed items for the homeless,” said Michael Schiffman, financial director of Interactive Intelligence.

Schiffman added that the gratitude of those who received the gift packs was humbling to see.

“Everyone came back to the office with a sense of satisfaction in doing their bit to give back their 67 minutes in honour of Madiba. Interactive Intelligence will definitely be taking part in Mandela Day again next year, aiming to give of our time in the best way possible,” he concluded.
