St Mary’s girls give back on Mandela Day

WAVERLEY – St Mary's girls do their bit to give back to the underprivileged.

The late President Nelson Mandela once said, “There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.”

This quote is synonymous with the ethos of St Mary’s School, Waverley.

The girls of St Mary’s are highly compassionate and take pride in assisting their communities. This was made evident by the magnitude of community service initiatives embraced by the pupils this Mandela Month.

The school ran four initiatives with the first being the knitting of squares which were sewn together into blankets and donated to children’s hospital wards. The second initiative comprised collecting old shoes which would be donated to orphanages. The third was a raffle which raised money for the Carl du Toit School for the Deaf in Bloemfontein and the fourth was a bake sale for Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer.

All the initiatives were greatly supported by the girls and the staff which reiterate St Mary’s spirit regarding the improvement of local communities.
