Love Norwood Day returns to Joburg

NORWOOD – On 31 July, why not join locals in soaking up the winter sunshine in Norwood Park?

The Love Norwood Day on 31 July, an annual event now in its second year, boasts a spectacular carnival atmosphere and will once again delight residents and visitors of all ages with a packed programme of music, entertainment, food and shopping.

The event is proudly brought to all residents and visitors by the Norwood Orchards Residents Association (Nora) and Cap Security.

Brett McDougall of the association said they are passionate about safe streets; clean, attractive and well-used public spaces; and a vibrant high street on Grant Avenue.

“Love Norwood Day is a community event that aims to promote local businesses, foster community spirit, and improve the quality of our public spaces. All profits will be used to maintain Norwood Park,” McDougall said.

This event includes various activities and services.

Some of the things to lookout for include:

  • A pop-up market will see the sale of arts and crafts, homemade items, yummy cakes, biscuits and sweets, hanging bird feeders and wooden horses.
  • A lifestyle and fitness section which will see participants of Andre’s Taekwondo Academy providing martial arts demonstrations; as well as members of AfriCan Kemetic Yoga Studio offering yoga classes in the park.
  • The Norwood Community Policing Forum will give residents the opportunity to meet their local police officers, as well as members from Metro police.

Cap Security will provide security on the day and will be available to talk about security options for the neighbourhood.

“We have partnered with residents, local businesses and the City of Johannesburg to build a community we can all be proud to live in. But we need your help to continue building on our successes,” expressed McDougall.

The residents’ association has been hard at work improving the quality of the parks, representing the neighbourhood in the Paterson Park development proposals, and creating a better high street through the Grant Avenue Precinct Plan.

Members of the association will be at the event to answer all questions on these and other neighbourhood issues.
