Fresh coat of paint for Mandela Day

SAXONWOLD – Nelson Mandela Children's Fund property painted for Mandela Day.

In the name of keeping of the legacy of Mandela alive, The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund property in Saxonwold received a new coat of paint to mark Mandela Day.

In partnership with Nedbank and their staff volunteers, the fund painted the outside walls of the property which was founded by Mandela himself 21 years ago. “The fund was started by Mandela to relate to the challenges which children face. It is with his vision that this fund is being repainted. As a fund we want to try and change the way society treats children and youth,” commented Mpaki Pule from the fund.

She added that although the painting of the walls was done to mark the special day, she encouraged people to try and do a little every day to make a difference in South Africa.

Nedbank staff volunteers did not only do their 67 minutes but also worked through the morning to make sure the walls were neatly painted to carry on the legacy of Mandela.

Bernice van der Walt, marketing manager for the Nedbank Children’s Affinity program, said the painting of the walls was a great way for Nedbank to show their support to the legacy of Mandela. “We are partners with the fund and it was great to come together to do this. Over the years we have donated over R10 million to the fund and it is great being part of this.”

A volunteer on the day, Duduzile Simkhumba said Mandela Day is not only about taking part financially but also giving of some of one’s time to better the community and make a real difference. “The reason I am involved is because I look at Mandela and the vision he had and knowing that I am playing a role in reaching that vision is very good,” she said.
