Art of Life youth art exhibition showcases young talent

JOBURG – It's an art exhibition for the youth.

New Acropolis South Africa, an international non-governmental organisation has launched the Art of Life youth art exhibition as part of its 10-year anniversary celebration in Braamfontein.

The launch, held on 15 July, featured the exclusive works of six budding young Sowetan artists and forms part of New Acropolis’ mission to promote philosophy as a practical way of living, develop cultural programmes and ultimately enhance social values.

The exhibition also showcased pieces by internationally-renowned photographer Pierre Poulain and well-known painter Rinat Orell.

New Acropolis South Africa focuses on youth development programmes and volunteer projects with philosophical applications. From empowerment workshops to cultural education evenings, the organisation is committed to enriching the lives of communities.

In addition to a variety of activities such as movie nights, book clubs, self-defence training and meditation classes, the organisation also offers courses in philosophy and its practical application in everyday life to promote the best aspirations of humanity.

“The practise of philosophy is an educational process. It helps us to know and improve ourselves,” said Guy Hazon, national director of New Acropolis South Africa.

“Through its practise and with the understanding of human values, it forms the basis for an active and participative culture. We strive to bring out the best qualities of each individual we meet, and broaden the horizons of mind and spirit.”

The exhibition is the first of many showcases which will focus on the promotion of local youth art. The inaugural exhibition featured expressions of life in Soweto by artists Theo Kuvhutlu, Thina Dube, Sam Djedje, Dineo Molefe, Motheo Moiloa and Bolelang Leepila.

In future, New Acropolis South Africa will host an art exhibition every month.

“In our dedication to community upliftment, we will continue to pilot activities which will promote the practise of philosophy, culture and volunteerism. We are committed to the development of the communities’ natural expression of a spirit in union with life and humanity,” Hazon concluded.

Check out the exhibition on the third floor of Orion House, situated at 49 Jorissen Street in Braamfontein, until 5 August.
