Teaming up to Stop Hunger Now

JOBURG – Liberty and Stop Hunger Now SA, team up to feed some hungry tummies.

A leading corporate incorporates all their staff into their 67 Minutes for Mandela Day efforts.

Liberty, the company based in Braamfontein, teamed up with Stop Hunger Now SA to get all hands on deck and working at full force to provide those in need with a good, hearty meal.

“Today we’re spending time making our contribution to the Mandela Day initiative,” said Joe Mwase, divisional director of corporate affairs and sustainability at Liberty.

“We have asked our staff members to participate in packing bags for children in early childhood development centres.”

Stop Hunger Now SA, the initiative leading today’s activities and the distributors of the food packages, approached the company to help with packing more than 100 000 meals for more than 400 early development childhood centres across the country.

More than 900 staff members participated in four shifts of 67 minutes, where teams from various departments put all their efforts in putting together food parcels containing rice and soya, among other food staples required for a hearty, filling diet.

“We are targeting to pack 100 000 meals, which means that we will be able to feed at least 385 children every week for the whole year – giving them a full, sustainable, nutritional meal,” Mwase continued.

Brian Nell, Stop Hunger Now SA’s national operations manager, hosted the event and the Liberty choir sang songs for Nelson Mandela Day, all the while packing meals for the children in need.

Liberty Group chief executive officer, Thabo Dloti gave his vote of thanks to all who took up the challenge and celebrated Mandela Day through hard work to give back to those in need.
